You will be filled with shock and awe just like Harry the first time he entered Gringotts!
When you enter the bank to ride Escape From Gringotts it’s just like the movie, down to the very last chandelier crystal. The counters are lined with goblins grumpily working aways at their tasks while you keep your head down and walk past.
The detail is absolutely amazing! Be sure to keep looking around everywhere you go because there are easter eggs and details throughout the attraction that only the biggest Potterheads can appreciate.
1. Getting the Perfect Pictures of the Dragon
First things first: The dragon. Just look at her! She’s a Ukrainian Ironbelly that has been held captive to guard the vaults. She’s free now and is majestically blowing flame above Diagon Alley throughout the day.
It’s practically required that you have a picture of her. She’s a dragon that is blowing fire! But, everytime you try to get a picture you just miss it…
Here’s the secret: She will blow flame every ten minutes on the ten minute. So, 12:30, 12:40, 12:50, etc. Don’t let those random gurgles and roars fool you! If there is bad weather, however, she keeps her fire to herself.
2. Daily Prophet
As you get deeper into the queue you will find scattered copies of the wizarding newspaper, the Daily Prophet. If you weren’t sure at what point Escape From Gringotts takes place, the papers will tell you.
Look at the headlines and you will see articles about Dumbledore’s death, Snape taking over as headmaster, the Ministry releasing new rules about self-defense spells, mass breakouts from Azkaban, and of course, Undesirable No. 1. I bet you can guess who that’s about… These headlines tell us that we are right in book number 7, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
If you have really good eyesight, try your hands at the word puzzles and crosswords! We would love to know the questions!
3. Muggles Beware!
We all have that member in our families… Muggles. Non-magic folk. Or maybe you, yourself, are a muggle-born witch or wizard. Hey, not judging! But you might want to watch yourself. Gringotts has an assortment of the Ministry’s latest pamphlet – “Mudbloods and the Dangers They Pose”.
This was created by the latest organization out of the Ministry of Magic, the Perfect Pure Blood Society.
For those who don’t know, a pure blood is one in which there is no muggle lineage. It’s a dangerous time for muggles and muggle-borns alike. You-Know-Who has a particular hatred for them himself. It’s rather ironic since… Lord Voldemort *gasp* was a half-blood.
4. Check Those Office Doors
Don’t ignore any details, remember! As you come up to the hallway of office doors you will recognize all of the names. The most important is Griphook.
Griphook is the goblin that escorted Harry in the Sorcerer’s Stone, and he’s the goblin that will help Harry get into Bellatrix’s vault… And then betray him.
Bill always told Harry not to trust goblins! (Book reference)
5. Sight-lines
Unlike other lands in Universal Studios, the creators paid special attention to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter so that you cannot see it from another land. Think about how you enter, and if you do not know where you are going in London, you will end up at Men in Black!
But you can see the dragon from everywhere. Why?
This is actually not a whoops, but a great attention to detail! The designers must have been fans of the book series because they knew that Diagon Alley was not visible to muggles, but when the dragon broke out of Gringotts, it was seen! Like really seen! So it only makes sense that the dragon can be seen by both Homer Simpson and Agent J.
Escape from Gringotts is an incredible attraction that should be on the must-do lists for Harry Potter fans and ride enthusiasts. Our biggest tip – let yourself go and immerse yourself in the journey!
